very nice model. I would darken the sidewalks, they look to clean and to light

I would say maybe tweak the sidewalks, too. But I like the vibrant color quality of the images. It really seems to work with this environment.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

Then I take the proposed 3D roadway and alignment. Typically i get them or develop them from Civil 3D. (by the Civil Engineers my background is Civil Design) This is a great way to make sure my model is exactly what was designed!

Can you explain the process of using Civil 3D for these images? Do you actually use Civil's assemblies as part of this model? I use a similar process of importing linework from CAD, but I have not imported a plan and profile, which I think is what you are describing.

Nice images overall. It appears, especially in image 1, that the cars are out of scale or that stretch of road was intended to be a one-way street.

The proposed roadway is a one way street to allow for more pedestrian access and angle parking. The roadway width is wide at the corner at the beginning of the project to allow for freight deliveries. This has to meet WB-40 turning movements.

On a project like this where parking, ped ramps, driveways and landscaping are vital to the property owners I chose to use the final TIN surface from the proposed roadway and sidewalk assemblies. Although Civil 3D is not the best to use in downtown environments it is still great for being able to have the vertical profiles and assemblies dynamically linked. I can then overlay the 2D Civil line work, from the illumination to the landscapeing and keep them updated quickly by importing the DWG directly into the model.

You can actually import the completed assemblies into SU. The catch is you must export them to a dwg and you must export them as ACIS solid. you do not want them to be exported as a poly mesh.

            Thanks for the comments!

Thanks for the comments. Has anyone had much experiance rendering large outdoor scenes? I am trying to nail down the best rendering app and have used V-ray and Podium. I like V-ray but I don't like the price tag. V-ray set up is alot like 3dSMax.

              Thanks again!

Just wondering if anyone has had much experience with VRay? This was the only project I have used it on and it is time to pay up for Podium or get V-ray. I am honestly not complaining about Podium but it is not as detailed as V-ray and IMO it does not have the realistic quality for the renderings.

                  Thanks!

                      Thanks for the complement.

Do you use Vue? I don't even know anything about it and Google did not bring anything up. I have not seen any discussions on what most are using and why? I know there is large differences between rendering environments for exterior and interior.
I think each user should add there rendering application along with the version of SU and CPU. Just a suggestion.

Vue is a landscape modeller mostly and can handle large scenes with many objects and details..
I would suggest getting a demo or the PLE it is well worth trying out.

It is made by e-on software and is available here as well as thier many other exciting products.

yeah what the Devil said... it's got a free demo version that leaves a watermark. it's pretty simple but it pretty much requires that you buy this little SketchUp to Vue exporter it's like $25... but the landscaping that you put around your models is incredible... very life like. it has several different levels of software, all the same base really and then with different add-ons to make it more and more complete taking you from rendering single shots to making movies.

you gotta see it to believe it.

Sorry to derail your thread here but I just have to pick up on something

I am not christian in any way so I don't believe in the devil, I am merely refering to lucifer of roman mythology, the "Morning Star where the name actually means "Shining One"

And also all those out there that realate lucifer to being the devil, it is not mentioned in the new testament at all and only relates to a king of ancient Babylon..(One of the major accepted theories)

Sorry about that I just dislike people who are quick to assume.

                            Anyway carry on.

I would love to see what you could come up with in Vue for this scene, it would be fantastic.

Krisidious thanks for the lead on the software. I will definitely give it a try and repost. Do you have any models rendered with Vue that you can post?
And thanks to the other morning banter responses about heaven and hell. (well kind of) I always find it entertaining when a tread takes on its own life!

Continuing with the derailment of this thread... Not even Satan mentioned in the Old Testament is the devil, Satan means accuser and that Satan is actually an angel who tests people's faith for god.
The concept of the devil has more to do with the Persians and Zoroaster who divides everything into only good or bad, no gray areas allowed.
Anyway interesting project you have going on here flynbrians. 😄

don't blame me that the name Lucifer is synonymous with the Devil, Satan, Beelzebub and such... it means what ever society thinks it means when they hear it... it's cultural.

and about my Vue renders... here is a thread on SCF about Vue with some of my renders in it.
