this show is happening tonight, so i guess i can post this now..

here is some pre-vis stuff i did for Axe's 'One Night Only' concert series.. http://www.theaxeeffect.com/#/axe-campaigns/music
...its a few shows around the country in secret locations.. this one being a Weezer show in the courtyard of a little motel in LA... hopefully i get to do the next two, as well.

all modelled in sketchup from photos, sketches, etc... quickly rendered in twilight...and then overlays/lighting/etc in pshop.. probably could've come out better if my pshop skills were a little higher.. so tips, comments, etc are def welcome!

there's some inconsistencies between the images, as some changes were made along the way and i pulled out what i thought were the best images..

Well done Jason! Good to see there are other professionals here who are visualizing event projects. Bet your customer is very happy. πŸ˜„

Very accurate modelling, only maybe the roof tiles could be a little smaller.
Good idea to have a view from the operator stand with mixer and lighting desk in the foreground.
In the first and the last picture the silhouette people take away realism imo. In the other two they work well though. Sometimes a good solution for that is to darken the silhouettes from back to foreground or vice versa. When you take the effort to manually gradate your crowd you'll be surprized how that can add to "realism".

To comment on design is tricky because I don't know the concept and can't say if this is useful for you - so just two ideas here:

Maybe it is wanted to have all the lighting in white, but if you would present at least the stage in strong colours, the scene would look much more like a musical event. Maybe just some color on the building behind the stage to make a nice backdrop? Also the band logo would get better contrasted by that.

Can't say if this the case here, but many times I have run into problems by forgetting to draw the speaker system. Especially when there was graphic content like screens or logos on stage I later ran into complicated problem solving during setup because the big black boxes blocked the lines of sight and air-clamps are still not invented yet. πŸ˜‰

      greetings

        My first thought: Awesome images!
My second thought was about an old motel as a setting for such a concert and a worry. I can imagine the upper level's exterior walkway being overloaded with many more spectators than it was ever designed for. Since it wasn't in the news I trust that it didn't collapse.

        Regards, Ross

Don't worry Ross, of course the upper walkway is meant to be the VIP-gallery and especially reserved for a few lightweight models and fragrance designers. Ask Jason, maybe he can get you up there too. πŸ˜‰

i'm not typically a fan of the white sillhouettes either..but thought it worked ok, and i'll definitely try the gradation next time..thanks for the tip, alexander.

i cant take credit for any of the design, obviously.. just the interpretation..

Looks like a fun event. I'm no expert, but I like the scene modeling. Really gives a good feel of the layout.

Here's the next in this series, in Chicago... not as good as the first, but... haha.

There was supposed to be a third, but unfortunately no finshed images were completed... just the sketchup model.
