The Art of SketchUp - part 2: Sci-Fi
-
Hi all,
So I mentioned in my other thread that I have stopped working on the two fantasy architectural interiors to focus on the EVE Online -Create a Starship contest http://news.deviantart.com/article/128272/. Thanks Liam for letting me know. More sleepless nights ahead but it will be worth it. The prizes are so sweet.
I started the model a few days ago. I have less than 3 weeks and working on it a few hours at night, I hope I will finish it on time.
Thanks for visiting and have a terrific day!

The little dots you see here are the human scales (1.8m). Yep, that space ship is huge. This will be my biggest model. The length is 1km.

Liam: Hope you can make it. Would love to see what you can come up with.

Please make a video when you are going to model some parts .. I still cannot believe it
and damn .. 1KM .
nice one -
well I did a mock up by mostly kit-bashing older models but luckily I know exactly in my head what I want to make so when I finish this freelance project taking up most of my time I reckon I make it and paint it in a week fingers crossed? but yours is sure looking good make sure you stick to the rules i have seen a lot of peeps with great models but entering them wrong so they void the application haha!

Hi guys,
Hope you had a great weekend.
@ Dolphus: Thank you, Sir. How is it going with your aerospace designs?
@ Pilou: Merci beaucoup. Bonne journee!
@ Solidseal: Thanks for you comment. Sorry, I don't have any videos. Maybe I will make some video tutorials of modeling high detailed models in Skechup in the future. Any free software I can use to make videos?
@ Liam: Wonderful, looking forward to seeing what you have. Yes, I have noticed that lots of people did not follow the rules. Too bad for them, but good for us...less competition. By the way, you mentioned you would paint it. Don't forget you have to submit uncolored line drawings or illustrations. If time allows I will include a colored perspective view of the starship, but that won't be my main focus. I will try to finish 6 really nice detailed views of the model first, before thinking about any colored illustration.
Here's the latest WIP from Saturday night (fever...)
Have a great week!

I think you have done enough you have worked really hard why not take a week off ken haha (so I can catch up)
Looks really good, its nice that it actually fits within one of the races in the eve universe I have looked at a few entries and they dont seem to fit in, it wasnt strict about how close your design had to fit in but I bet all the winners and runners up will have game-worthy designs! What size is your ship anyway mine comes in at around 300M (Length) 890M (width) 200M (height) -
What an awesome work! How do you make the engines? The details are incredible.
I hope you win one of the prizes at the da contest.
-
@ Liam: Yeah, maybe I should take a week off; go to bed and sleep. I look like a zombie.
Thanks for noticing that my starship fits within one of the races. Some entries are very nice but they seem like they belong to another universe but EVE. The rule says it clearly: "Entries must depict a starship suitable for integration into EVE Online".
Your ship's length is longer than the width? 300M (Length) 890M (width) 200M (height).....lol
My dimensions are: 1000M (length) - 450M (width - it will be larger as I still have to add something on one side) - 450M (height).
@ stonebreaker: Thank you for your kind comment. I made the engines with basic tools like drawing a profile using lines, circle, curves, etc., then I used "follow me" around a circle.
Here's stuff from last night. I added details to the engines/exhaust and more stuff in the back of the ship. I will have to do the same thing with the rest of the ship. I will go back and add details later.
Thank you for viewing. Take care,
