This is a personal project and was inspired by an image I had seen. All modeling was done in Sketchup with some pre-built components as well. Rendering was in Twilight. Comments welcome.

Hi Scott,
Looks very realistic. The only thing I don't like are the black joints on the flooring. Would the joints actually be that wide?

It is white washed reclaimed flooring. I know it is wider than typical flooring but I think part of it is my texture as well. I am going to build a better texture/bump map and run it again.
Thanks,

Hi Scott,
Nice render and nice model. First I thougt you modelled the floor, but you mentioned it is a texture map. The bolts in the wooden beams catch my attention. I know they should be there, but maybe there are to many. You could use a wooden pen construction. I also think that the render would be better if rendered with another render application. Twillight just doesn't do photorealistic rendering as wel as a few other apps like Indigo, Fry , Max or Vray. I looked at the showcase on the twillight homepage, but there aren't many renders that blow me away in terms of realisme.

Twan,
Thanks for your comments. As far as the bolts they were matched to the photo for placement and count.
I have fryrender, vray and MAX but I choose Twilight for its speed and ease of use. I have 10-12 house in the toal project and that includes modeling and rendering so for me Twilight is fast. Vray may be better in terms of overall quality but setup sucks and lighting can take a while unless you are just going to go for GI alone. Twilight is also FAR cheaper than any other you noted and is well integrated into Sketchup.
Best regards,
Scott -
I like that one very much, especially the curtains.
-
thats a winner! background image well integrated too, nice one!
WIth regards to bolts, isn't there a gang nail plate you can use instead? can't remember the exact term for it.
twan: have you not seen the twilight showcase? they look pretty real to me!

Really great looking render, Scott...

Ooohhh... You forgot to mention the new Thea Render...
I'm amazed that you're comparing applications this way, Twan...
Is the integration and userfriendlyness as good as Twilight for any of the applications you've mentioned...??
And what about the price...??@pugz1983 said:

Happy to hear that you've found some - at least...
I've also seen renders made with the above mentioned render applications that looked far from photorealistic...
I believe this is saying more about the "driver" and not the application itself... -
I find this really appealing Scott. I suppose the floor could use a tweak, but pretty powerful image.
Although I'm not sure I'd be allowed in a room that white though
As for Twilight, I've been really impressed with some of the work I have seen. If there was a mac version, It would be in my repertoire.
Some of the twilight materials and images rendered in some of the challenges here have been stellar.
And did I mention price as well? -
Hi Scott,
I know that I was comparing apples with pears. Don't get me wrong, The render is great, and Twillight is very good because of the integration in SU and price. But I think the render could be even beter If rendered with another application.
Oli, I've checked the showcase on the Twillight site again. There are only a few masterpieces I think. Its hard to put my finger on it, but I think it has to do with the realism of the materials or lighting.

I agree with Frederik:

Some twilight images I've made even fool me....and I've worked on them!
If scott let this render cook longer, with no noise, I really cannot see how vray could make it any better. Many vray renders are so glossy and colourful they just look wrong. and the price
-
I've not done any rendering yet but what I see astounds me.
My wish would be that people post an image of the model as well so you can see a bit of where the render came from.
-
Here you go. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Scott, it certainly helps get my head around it a little better.
-
Yeah. . .I'd rethink the bolts. . .paint 'em white. they'll just disappear.
Awesome render. THought it was a photo at first.
-
Thanks Dave.
As for the bolts they match the photo I modeled to, I kind of like them.

sure . ..whatever floats your boat.
It's all just a preference thing.

I like the mood of your renders... Congrats...
Wait for some update...
