Rendering Software

me again....
Please understand there is another factor here, biased vs unbiased engines, unbiased engines like Maxwell, Indigo, and Twilight (although Twilight has also got unbiased options) will be slower than biased, but the quality will normally be best. Vray is the best biased engine around, with results that can largely compete with unbiased engines.

Maxwell: very slow, great quality, not cheap. (exporter sucks)
Brazil: not cheap, good quality, not bad speed (3rd party app needed)Solo
Would you give us your prefference in order? one list for speed and another list for quality
So I can understand it, with my short experience with the trials, so I can have a better idea to choose.
Thanks

Well, though I wouldn't like to join in suggesting anything particular, always make sure that scene and material setup is also calculated into speed.

bravoddb, I cannot in all fairness tell you my preferences as that will be seen as an endorsement, however there is no render engine out at the moment that is best for everything.
I use Podium, Vray for Max, Twilight, and Vue, I use different engines for different types of jobs, they all have their advantages as well as their disadvantages. -

Thanks

What about IRender? not a single word?

I have only tried the trial version, at $380.00 it falls into mid price (based on $800 being high)
Not bad speed once rendering (I found it a little slow at processing geometry), it does come with a lot of very cool extras and has great animation tools, the quality is pretty good and very much based on the skills of the user.Again, I only used a trial version last year and since then there has been numerous updates and enhancements.

Do you have more than one PC? If so, you can try distributing the rendering load. As you have seen yourself, unbiased render methods as those available in the Indigo, Maxwell, Fry, and Kerkythea engines yield nice results given enough time, and if you have more than one PC you can set each one to render a different scene, thus cutting total render time.
Funny that no one has mentioned Artlantis. I used it a lot years ago when I was an employee, and it was fast. Right in the Artlantis page there's a positive blurb by Coen Naninck, so the current version must be real good.
Also, until now all this discussion has been about raytracers, what about scanline renderers like 3dsMAX's internal engine and LightUp? They're faster than any raytracer.
You can also try buying a Mac with eight physical cores as Kwisten Biebel has and forget about slow renders.
And lastly, if you develop your texturing and post-production skills to Nomer Adona's level, you won't need any renderers.
Hey, I still have a few smileys left...

Well I'm not an experienced in the rendering area, but this is how I use to work, I'm an Architect I have two kinds of clients, those to who I use to make projects, and those (friends) who have seen my renderings and ask me for their projects. I supposed not be a freelance, but I'm becoming.
Here where I live (mexico) there are very small projects, perfect for a render like Irender, that is fast and good. I own Irender and it has very good features, is very easy to make an animation, has a plug in for Archvision's RPC.Very usefull.
I have Twilight, and is amazing!!. Very good and very easy to use, as I said I'm not experienced, and when I bought it, I realized that it was very good for the price, so that was the reason I started seeking a software with that quality but faster. I use Twilight for bigger projects, when I have time to do it.

There are two new options on the horizon, one being the new Podium, I'm pretty sure it will be easy to use, but do not know much else (I'm out of the loop), and then Thea, which as far as I can see will be a top end product and very reasonably priced, it will also be biased and unbiased with all the bells and whistles you can wish for.
So IMO if you can wait for December then you will have more choices.
By the way have you tried rendering with Twilight's biased engine yet? it's pretty fast actually, the 5 hour renders you mentioned must have been from the unbiased preset, try 1 -7 (they are biased)

Thanks Solo,
I will try it and I will wait for TheaRender
