Frustrating problem
-
A few weeks ago, all of a sudden I couldn't view png files anymore, just get the red X. It's really frustrating when viewing websites or even some of the great renders here. A few searches online revealed that this is a common problem but not really a fix. Now if I set up a new user account, I can again view pngs but I hate to use an account just to surf and then have to switch back to my administrator account to do anything else. Anybody here ever have this problem and were you able to fix it? BTW I'm running Vista home preminum. TIA

Which browser are you using? does using something else make a difference?

Well, sorry Mike that I won't be of any help and even post something OT - but I have a student now registered here with the same surname as you (maybe a distant relative?):

Using IE, don't know which one but not the latest. Never tried another browser to see if it fixes my problem, interesting idea.

Have you tried this: http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/pngfaq.html#msie ?

Gaieus, thats interesting, there is a chance we could be related, I'll have to check. My father is from Hungary and all my relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, etc.) are still in Hungary or Czechoslovakia. Just my immediate family, mother, father, sister, and my kids are in the states.

Some people (browsing with IE 7 or have problems while registering here (or re-authenticated themselves after entering wrong passwords) because they cannot see those authentication images (you know, those fancy numbers and letters automatically generated).
Mostly it is some kind of security settings somewhere in the system but I don't know if it's on system level or IE level.
As for the "RΓ‘cz" - it's quite a frequent name here however, so that relation is not that certain (just popped into my mind) It actually means "Serb" in (older) Hungarian and tens of thousands of Serbs migrated to Hungary at the end of the 17th century and later, see this Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Serb_MigrationsBut again, sorry for the OT intrusion.
