I meant I was after a disturbing, gloomy image, like the ones Spilliaert did, and ended up with the sort of atmospheric prettyness Feininger was good at. Let me put it this way: I wanted Joy Division, and got lounge music.
(I must add this comparison is bit unfair on Feininger.)I find it quite surprising that the images I put the most work in invariably turn out the worst.
