    heyo sketcho's

its been so long since i last went here. office been so bad i have no internet connection yet that i have to go home for a connection.

anyway, i got my x2 to have only 2gb ram when i purchased it. I was suppose to buy an x4 but because of financial constraint, i decided to upgrade my x2, athlon64 and athlonxp instead. I bought additional 2-2gb ram for the x2 and made both athlon 64 and xp at 2gb ram. I thought of giving the old units one last hurrah before letting them retire for next year or 2 the most.

going back to my concern, i have total of 6gb ram for the x2 and it seems that windows xp can only read 3.25 ram or 4gb ram so it says over so many forums and in windows website as well.

does this mean i could utilize by 6gb ram all the while? or it could just read that much but it will certainly use it?

my main reason i bought these because i thought thatr it will help me with my sketchups and rendering.

i just hope someone here can have an answer or else my 2gb will just fall in a pit. geez.

i didnt want to go to vista since it will eat up more ram by just having it up and running compared to xp.

    help!!!

You need to upgrade to a 64 bit operating system (and then use 64 bit versions of applications on that operating system) to be able to make use of all your ram. Both vista and xp have 64 bit versions but both will require a clean install.

As for its usefulness, SU wont be able to use the extra ram although your rendering app almost certainly will.

        remus,

if thats the case, will it really make a difference in performance if i do use 64 bit windows OS or just a tad bit?

I thought i would really charge up my pc but yeah i was wrong.

Its unlikely to make much of a difference in overall performance. The only areas it will really help in are RAM intensive stuff like rendering (large scenes especially), modelling in a program that supports 64 bit and perhaps image/video editing.
