SP veterans: cutting stuff
-
Hey guys, has anyone had a go at 'cutting' something in SP. For example; I'm wanting to show a log being cut, do I need to create two groups and tie them together until the saw hits or something like that? Any ideas are much appreciated.
Also, when I am posting my potentially amateur questions on here, should I put them under a new topic each time or have one topic for many questions?

Cutting? just intersect, make separate groups, use a fixed joint with a breaking force, and hide the lines in the log so you cant see any seams.
You don't have to place everything in one topic. You can also ask here:http://sketchyphysicscommunity.webs.com/ -
hmmm, it works but is difficult to stop the resulting pieces from flying all over the show. I cant think of a better way so perhaps I will just add some hidden geometry to brace both 'cut' pieces of 'wood'. Thanks for the reply Physicsguy.

Fixed joints have a breakingForce setting. Connect the two objects with a fixed joint, and change the setting until you have the desired result!

Or you could just freeze the two pieces without any joints, and then the saw will just push them apart.

The trouble with freezing them is that they are on a moving conveyor when they get cut (not an ideal situation i know), the hidden geometry will help however.
I'm creating a model of a sawmill and its quite a challenge, good fun though.
Thanks for the help guys
