      Trying to learn V-Ray

      I havnt posted before so thought was about time,

      Hi
      Ive just finished going through the manual. This is my first attempt at a proper scene. (This is the best of about 6 renders)
      I'm just experimenting with V-Ray sun and textures. Ive come from Podium, so finding V-Ray quiet overwelming.

      I would love you guy's to crit this

      Don't be afraid to tear this apart. I want to get good at this.

        It is a great render being your first try... πŸ‘
        I dont like the texture of wood in the kitchen There are a lot of repetitions...
        The other textures are great

        I see a little proble with the light in the left corner of the wall

        Well done!

        Working with: Win7 64 bit OS - Core i5 - 2,27GHz and 8GB RAM

          I really like it. The only thing i can pick up when i looked at it immediately that looked a bit out of place is the kitchen table in front. Its got those scew lines on the corner. i dont know if its baked by using a bit of sketchup line overlay on the table, but the rest look really good. And like aartysmedia said, the back wood texture need some work. Great job πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘

            @artsmedia
            The texture on the kitchen divide/bar is so wrong. I don't have a large wood laminate texture. Ive just bought the arroway texture package. But I'm still waiting for it in the mail.

            @silver_shadow
            Thanks for your encouraging words. That table in the foreground, is actually meant to be like that. I copied the design out of a magazine. The table has these dark grooves along the edges. I can see how it looks like a line overlay.
            It was images like yours that pushed me to buy V-ray. Wondered where you had got to after Podium.
            Cheers again for the comments, but shouldn't you be working on eyecandy 3 πŸ˜„

                  Like it a lot... My only comment is bad blockwork (workmanship). I know you were afer raw versus sleek but bad workmanship ...no.
                  Nevertheless great render, great light . It seems you are comfortable with Vray. πŸ‘ πŸ‘

                    Veeery good...I like it πŸ˜„
                    I'm obsessed by kitchens, and I can tell you that the things that make me realize that it's a rendering and not a real picture is the light on the left of the table, the centrepiece, maybe a bit the landscape outside the window (but only watching it carefully) and last tha main wall....you can see that the piece between the black paint and the cupboard is not well defined as the rest of the wall. But these are only details, your work is absolutly good.
                    Chairs are perfect.....

                      the lighting and reflections are very realistic....only a couple of things give it away as being a render, very nicely done holmes. I agree with sepo about the block work, it should be very formal and neat (unless you want it to looks cracked/broken) i haven't yet delved into the magical world of vray.....how long has it taken you to get to this stage?

                        @Sepo and Oli
                        I have recently fired the block layer. His quality control was abysmal. His attitude stunk as well. This little project was more for learning materials and lighting, not so much for the perfect looking room. Apart from the wood texture on the kitchen divide I'm really happy how the materials came out.

                        @Oli
                        V-Ray is a fantastic programme. Its taken me about a month(Many many many hours) of trail and error to get to this stage. I really feel I have only scrapped about 25% of what it can do. So along with the countless hours researching on the forums, theres plenty more of research to go.
                        But enjoying every minute of it.

                          Thanks for the great advise. I'll try and work on those for the next render.

                            The materials and modeling look great, but I don't like how white the sky is.
                            Good Luck
