Great videocard for smooth 3d moddeling
-
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and would like to greet u first of all. Second of all I have a question.
I have been using sketchup for a year now and I'm looking to buy a new desktop with a great videocard for modeling. What must I look for in a videocard if I want sketchup to keep running smooth at a higer filesize?(polygons)
Advice is much appreciated!

With sketchup performance is more about your CPU: something in the 3Ghz+ range is ideal.
More generally, a video card with good openGL support is good for 3d modelling. I think nvidia's quadro cards are pretty good for this, although they can get fairly pricey.

Thanks remus for replying...
I came across a guy who wants to sell his nvidia quadro fx 5500 for 400euros. I dont have a desktop yet but I'm wondering if I would buy a 6 gb ram, quadcore 3 ghz with a gaming videocard with 2 gb ddr3 mem. if that wouldnt be good enough to handle larger scenes?
I don't mind rendertimes, I'm more annoyed by no smooth editing...
What would you recommend?

that sounds like a fairly good setup. As a general point a little more RAM wouldnt go amiss.
