Transformers - (8)Robots in disguise(8)
Transformer robots.
Started this project when the first movie came out and then carried it on from aorund one month ago , I downloaded the veyron & blackhawk models form the warehouse as well as a mecha model as a body placeholder to figure out how everything folded together. Then set about remodeling them completely from the top down to allow them to fold out and in(lots of trial and error lol). Well this has been in the works for a long time but just finished this week. The veyron is fully animated in transform mode using lightwave so ill try and post a video on here soon so keep looking. I lifted the sound files straight form the DVD and mixed them in with it as well.
Renders in Podium and textures in Photoshop.

Dude, great work!
I think its is really hard to model something like this.. and that it actually works is even more impressive.
Hi 5. You should post the video (please just not you tube, we are blocked to see it) any other format, but it should be interesting to see a wireframe model or semi cut away of the car for instance showing the folded robot. Nice!! -
Awesome well done
-
INSANE
That must have taken you for ever.
Fantastic modelling -
Wow, pretty cool! I'm really looking forward to that video .
-
Awesome! But I will have to say that the driver side window in robot mode has to be transparent, just like the way it is in alternator mode.
/annoying
But seriously, I really like it, especially the "battle damage" that you've added to the hood and doors.
-
no when it transforms the sort of electric shimmer effect rolls over the windows a sort of shield effect, you cant see it in the 2D pics so far but in the animation and final renders you will be able to see it
Here are the WIP's of the excavator transformer too still lots to do on this but in transformed mode it should be epic lol
-
aweosme stuff....again
-
thanks, was looking at your new car renders today and they are perfect!
-
Thanks, not all feel that way, it's so hard to please everybody
-
you dont need to please anybody but yourself at the end of the day, looking back we have both come so far since those F5 forum days lol
-
...
Looks like I haven't worded it correct. I actually understood that you've done that on purpose since you bothered to add reflections to it rather than making it transparent. I was in attempt of being as a**. If you don't mind, that is.
-
lol dont worry I didnt take any offence you might of assumed tho with my blunt reply. I was planning to do the effect but after I did the battle damage i lost the pen for my tablet so had to do a crappy effect with the mouse, i found it now but just havent been bothered to go back and redo it. Anyway here are some moe updates on the hawk, started to get rid of the placeholders and model the mechanical aspects of the upper torso still needs a head and feet and my own mechanical legs and arms lol but at least it actually folds away now too as you can see in these shots>
-
no i made them all up, however im starting to wish I did lol even fathoming how that excavator is going to transform is a headache lol although I think after a week ive got it sorted in my head.
However ive found a good trick in the transforming mechanism, that is to download a robot from the 3d warehouse which sort of fits the body profile I imagine my transformer will have. I then sort out all the joints to make it fold together and then slowly work my way around replacing the placeholder model with my own, that way when ive finished modeling it will still all fold away perfectly, something that would be incredibly difficult when my arms are all tubes and pipes compared with the models on the warehouse which are usually solid objects and much lower in poly count and model size (much easier to manipulate).
As you can see form my blackhawk model, the body of the transformer has significantly changed since my first post as I have phased out the warehouse model for my own objects, most noticeably the piston/articulator type joints with tubes etc around the shoulders, torso and upper arms, this takes a while but once its finished should show some good detailed results. One of the biggest complaints people have had from the two new transformer films is that the models are too 'busy' and nobody knows what the f**** is going on lol, is that a ford mustang or a M1 tank? a good guy or a bad guy? Ive tried to simplify these machines so they still retain a strong image of there former vehicles making it easier to realate to them. Hence the Autobots are civilian vehicles (good guys) and the Deceptacons are usually military vehicles (bad guys obv lol). Big thanks to ALM model works for using their Blackhawk model and modifying it and 'whoever was the original author of the veyron is(as there are so many of the same car on the warehouse)((although im pretty sure as are a few other people its an import))', and for katese whose mech models ive used as placeholders, the excavator doesnt have a placeholder equivalent on the warehouse so it looks like ill probably have to make a rough copy for the transforming process and then model a fully detailed robot just hope my computer can get its head down and deal with the high poly count this timeAnd thanks Coen I havent been around here long but ive seen your a real pro so its nice to have feedback from the masters sometimes lol, however im more here for negative feedback to see how I can improve on certain areas, so thats always helpful to.
-
Hi Liam, awesome progress on the robots.
I don't know if you'll get much negative feedback, cause these models are very good, and most of us sketchuppers never do that much detailes on models, and I see that some of the people that make detailed models already gave you positive feedback.
So you are on the right track. Can't wait to see the animations.
And about the new Transformers, yeah they are too busy and at the amount of battle scenes there are in both movies it pretty diffcult to understand who is who.
Anyway keep it up -
AWESOME work.
