What is ruby and how does it work in sketchup 7 ?
-
Hello,
I am new to sketchup and am learning quickly. I have experience in Autocad. However, I am a little confused about Ruby. Can the plugins be used with sketchup 7 freee version or are they used only with sketchup pro? The plugins I have been researching seem quite interesting.
Your help would be highly appreciated. John

A vast majority of rubyscripts will work in the free version (me thinks...) (Ones that use the features of Sketchup Pro like the 3ds export funtion and stuff like that won't work in the free sketchup, but then there are other plugins that let you import and export obj files without the use of sketchup pro) (I hope that makes sense) All you need to do to install a rubyscript is place it and it's (sometimes existent) sub folder(s) into the plugin folder which is located in the main directory of sketchup.

I think there might be some rubies which need the Pro version, but there won't be many. I'll put it this way, I use SU7 Free and I have never come across a ruby that interests me that doesn't work with the free version.

Thanks for the info. I was able to download a whole bunch of plugins and have tested many already. I am now stuck on trying to download this one. massmaterialimporter.rb I am trying to set up a materials library and can not figure how to download this plugin. It comes up as script. Can someone solve this?
Thanks Much, John
