      Hi all,

Instead of littering the competition thread (n°6 :Castles), I decided to post the animation as a gallery thread.
I am disqualified anyway, as this went way beyond the time limit 😄.

      Here it is:

      Outstanding work!
Where I can find good tutorials how to import model form SketchUp to C4D and process this kind of animation?
      Thanks for any help.

The best way to get a sketchup model into Cinema 4D is by using the .fbx format.
Don't use .3ds as that typically triangulates all geometry and you don't want that.
Quads are much handier than triangles to modify in C4D (and in any other modeler).

You can use the built in renderer of C4D or you can buy Vray for C4D supplementary as well.

Modo also has a good renderer built in (especially for animation)and probably is better affordable.

I am sure I will continue using Sketchup, even if it would be for non work related stuff.
There is no 3D tool easier than SU to be creative.

Yes , Sketchup is a shiny little gem.
I just have a problem with the course Google is taking with it.

We discussed this in depth at our office and we came to the conclusion that Google is not taking the Pro version serious . So we are currently experimenting with other 3D design/Visualisation software, either to replace Sketchup completely or partially.

Another interesting discussion we had was about what exactly makes sketchup such a wonderful tool as opposed to the big modelers.
We concluded that it was the fact that Sketchup can do a 1000 operations with only 3 tools, while the monster modelers use a 1000 tools to do just 3 operations.

That is what makes learning one of the monstruous modelers such a pain. It takes you a looong time before you are at the level of a moderate skilled user....while Sketchup has that immediate 'bang!, I got it' feeling to it.

Too bad Google treats Sketchup Pro as a toy.
I am still in love with the toy though.... 😄....but sometimes a job needs to be done.

Interested in what you come up with to migrate to from SU for architecture.

                    Something like that.
I had Petra (Jordany) in my mind and also the sceneries in the adventure game series 'Myst' (I,II,III,IV) back in the late nineties.

I have to agree w/ you Kwist on the development of SU by google. I think the product they've been putting out is great for the standard/free version but I'd like to see the Pro version really be for "Pro's"

At my office we're currently looking into incorporating Rhino as an alternative and rendering in Maxwell. Not quite sure what we'll be doing for animations yet though.

I thought I saw a touch of Myst in those images. One of my favorite games. I actually only got half way through End of Ages... will have to finish it soon.

Had me thinking of Myst also, and how visually far ahead of its time it was.
