1st post....House for couple
-
Hi.....
I'm new to sketchucation......and what i've seen so far on this site has pretty much blown my mind......u guys are great...After being an observer for a while i'm now inspired to try my hand at some rendering......this is my second post here....and only my first in the gallery section.....
Here are some basic renderings , straight from sketchup ( as you can see there has been no post production nor am i too good at rendering.......i've just started to render myself)....
This is a house for a young couple ...and the images are the initial design ( still under development) of the main house which is part of a larger campus which includes garden suites,etc.....Like i mentioned earlier , i'm no good at this ......and i'm struggling to get the textures from the materials......like the roof tiles.., the paving stones ..., the stone masonry....and all this after using bump maps and displacement maps......All i could manage is the glass effect......
The materials that i have used are not from sketchup....but i imported these from images that i had with me.......
maybe i didn't get the bump or displacement right....
Can some one help me?....and please feel free to comment on any thing......help me improve....Thanks

ozz..
these are not bad atall.. rendering is a skill which u can easily master provided u are patient enough and observant.
the first thing i noticed in ur rendering is the lack of a background.. i would suggest to use physical sky ( i am assuming u are using vray for SU? ) or u can just use a nice sky image in the background (photoshopped).
regarding materials.. boy! thats hard actually.. u gotta scout the internet for lots of nice textures and if ur lucky enough u get seamless ones or u can make them seamless...
regarding bumps and displacemnts.. they are actually either black n white images or greyscale images of ur main texture maps. try to search for "crazy bump" on google.. many ppl swear by it for creating normal and displacement maps.
if u scout this forum, there are lots of resources for free textures and such..
happy rendering! -
crazy bump is no longer free:(

thanks for your comments jenujacob....
and ......yes, i am using vray for SU.....
will definitely hunt the web for textures and materials ......what is crazy bump?? -
Did you design the house? Is it one house with an annex connected by the bridge? I really like the design, it's simple, well proportioned and contemporary but with enough detail to make it interesting and at the same time would also work in a 'traditional' neighbourhood. Where is it going to be located? I'd be interested in seeing some context around it.

hi kenny......
yes....i did design the house...and it is going to be built just outside the city of panaji, goa , india...
the location itself is that of a town.....and there is a hill on the far side ....visible from the site...that makes for a great view...will upload pictures of the site surroundings later....and will also try to incorporate them in the final model....
thanks for your comments....and i will keep on updating things as they happen... -
i've re-rendered the model adding a few more elements and as usual trying my hand at something new .....this time its clip mapping .....i saw tutorials about how to do it in podium and after days of searching , i finally found a tutorial for clip mapping in vray for SU........so i went ahead and added trees and those wild grass like plants in the planters ......quite happy with the results (notice the shadows).....although still struggling with the grass texture (it looks fake) ....anyone knows how to fix that..?.
and please let me know ..where can i find good grass textures?i also added the garden units ...but the model isnt complete yet.....on more unit to go...and furniture
also need to add some landscape elements....actually still need to design the landscape...
and need to work on how make the finishes look better....thanks guys .......let me know what you think.......
