Is there a "copy-multiple" ruby...

...for SU5: select an object and insert point, then place it in multiple locations (not related to the original displacement).

Just curious about why you use version 5 over 6?

I prefer the UI (still hate the whole styles setup)...only use 6 for photomatch and sketchy-edge rendering exports. Maybe little things like what I'm asking here, or new rubies that don't work in 5, will convince me to use 6 more...? Maybe they'll give 7 the option of losing styles if the user prefers...?

tom, I was only thinking about this the other day but forgot to post the question...
- select an object
- Ctrl and maybe another function key to allow the cursor to 'stick' to the object until you exit.
Maybe even add a function to scale by factor with 'up' and 'down' arrows for the next placement.....
No doubt could be done with ruby.

It does this already in 6, the move cursor appears where you initial chose for an insert point and sticks to the object, if you let go of Ctrl+V after pasting and select S the object gets the scale grabs points - scale to what you want, then to carry on with original either press Ctrl+V again, or Ctrl+C to copy resized object and then Ctrl+V to past it.
Edit - I just dug out my old copy of 5, and it works as 6 except insert point appears not to work and reverts to a default corner position and the S key which you could either set up as short cut or just use the drop down menu. I'll try insert point again in 6, just to see if my minds not playing trick on me again, as I have just tried 6 again and the insert point keeps reverting to default corner

Thanks guys...I'm hoping to emulate the copy function in Autocad, where you can hit "m" for multiple after you select a start point: then you can position a new copy at each new end point selection until you escape out of the command.
Sounds like this has turned into a "wishlist" item...please and thankyou :`)

Tom, I eventually worked out how to do this. A few goes and it becomes second nature- honest.
Seemed to work Ok in 5.However does NOT work with groups or components - strange
NB. By insert point I mean the position you pick on the object to be copied.- Select all object.
- Ctrl+C to copy
- Ctrl+V to paste
- Paste anywhere. The object should still highlighted and with default insert point. (the original object can be deleted later)
- Press Esc once
- Now select the insertion point on object(which should still be highlighted) to be moved.
- The object should now stick to the cursor and you can move it, hold down Ctrl+V and you can paste it repeatedly where you want.
To change insert point, release Ctrl+V, press Ecs once, and pick another insert point, object now sticks to that point, move and then hold down Ctrl+V to paste to you hearts content.

In AutoCAD the copy function is always multiple since ACAD2005 or so... you can place your objects until you hit esc. it would be good to see something like this in sketchup too...

Sorry I don't know about 5 or know of ruby but if its anything like 6 with copy and paste -
- Select the object to copy
- Choose an insertion point with the move tool. (don't worry when the object moves as you move the curser to select copy, because after using copy and then holding down Ctrl+V the original one appears back in it original position)
- Copy object or you could use Ctrl+C
- Then Holding down the Ctrl+V keys when pasting you get multiply copies to paste were you want, with a insertion point.
