I just got rid of one of my old computers and need to order a new one. I am not exactly a hardware expert so I would need some tips on building my new configuration.

      Thanks Remus,

      'wait a couple of moths'

I think I have waited too long already. One went and the two I am left with are dying
under my graphic pressure. The thing is I have some spare money at the moment and in few months I may not have. I use a lot of graphic applications Maxwell, Corel, Photoshop. I basically just need a list to take to my computer shop and say I want this.
Any suggestions or lists that would be good for me?

Worth considering getting 2 of these, then you could use one as an internal backup drive.

I chose those bits for a good price/performance balance.

Im guessing 'wait a couple of months' isnt really the sort of thing you want to be hearing right now, but it would actually be quite a good idea.

          puts on sales mans voice

Intel are in the process of releasing a new range of processors, called the i7 range. They are basically a lot better than whats out their at the moment, and if your in to that sort of thing they are also very good for overclocking.

Once youve chosen a processor youll need a compatible motherboard. If you do a bit of reading about a few motherboards you should be able to find out which processors can go with which motherboards, it is fairly simple.

After that, youll need a power supply. Essentially more power is better (in most cases) but go for something around 700W and you should be ok.

With those 3 things out the way the next thing to think about is a graphics card. Nvidia are the safest bet, and in terms of a particular model, the 9000 series are pretty good, and should have adequate support for opengl (and so SU.)

Next on the list is memory. 4GB of DDR2 is pretty standard and not to expensive. Should be adequate for most things.

Lastly youll need a hard drive (or 2) and a CD/DVD drive. Hard drive: large and cheap is good, also look for a high RPM as generally that means better performance. CD/DVD drive: Cheap and fast is good, something like this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-099-SA

Oh, and dont forget a case. Pretty much anything will do the job.

Hopefully that wil be enough to get you started, its pretty vague in places tohugh, so feel free to ask more technical questions.

p.s. if you arent looking to build yourself, then check out dell for some cheap ready made machines. Make sure you go to the business section though.

Actually the Core i7 is released to manufacturers today. You should be able to find i7 core systems like this one

              if you look around.
