i had a chance to use SP on an older comp. but it's EXTREMELY inconvenient.

a solution to the errors in Vista would be a lifesaver!

I use vista... I didn't have any problems..? I'm using x64 as well, so you'd think if yours doesn't work, mine wouldn't either.
