    Hi all,
Maybe this is a dumb question but I can't get a script to work that I downloaded from the http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/EM/PutOnLayer.rb website.

It's the PutOnLayer.rb ruby that I want to use to put a component with all its nested groups/geometry to a specified layer.

I put the ruby in the plugin menu but when I reopen sketchup (v.6 on vista), the context menu doesn't appear when I right click the object.

My apologies if this is a dumb question 😳
....but thanks in advance for an answer 😉

By the way, does this script also puts the geometry itself to the specified layer?, or just groups.
I would want all subelements to be put on a different layer (not layer 0).

    regards,
    kwistenbiebel

let's be clear here... you get no context menu when you right click or the putonlayer does not show up on the context menu?

In Sketchup there is no sign of the ruby what so ever.
It appears as if nothing is installed.

open your plugin folder and check to make sure that the file ends in .rb and not .rb.txt

I've installed the ruby and find it on "right click" near the bottom says "Put On Layer"

you must have an item selected

This is very useful, but with a lot of layers it becomes difficult to find the correct layer since they appear to be ordered by creation "date".
Can the ruby be changed to automatically alphabetize the layer names?

                kwistenbiebel:

Is this vista's security "feature" biting your behind? Copy the rubies to your desktop first, then drag them into the plugins folder from there. Also, look at the top of the explorer window when you are in the plugins directory. Is there a folder icon for "compatibility files"? That's were these things often end up. CB.
