If you get in contact with the producers of the programs you might be able to persuade thme to give you a 64 bit version for free (you might even be able to download it straight form their website.)

If they wont just give you a 64 bit version you'll either have to buy it or just make do with a the 32 bit versions (32 bit programs should run fine on a 64 bit os, so SU will work fine.)

That is of course assuming that 64 bit versions exist for these programs, if they dont you'll just have to stick with 32 bit ๐Ÿ˜‰

I know there is a 64 bit version of Max, and its flippin fast/powerful! I watched a demo video of it somewhere on the net, not sure about AutoCAD though, but I'm sure there will be something you could do.

There are a few power users here that are on the 64 bit platform and as far as i can tell they have had much success, Kwistenbiebel is one that comes to mind who has successfully converted to 64 bit and loving it, so if he sees this thread he will be able to help you.

I'm on Vista Ultimate 64. SU runs just fine. Make sure to get plenty of RAM, though. My OS uses about 2 gb for just sitting there.

Is it? Shame. Pretty nice OS, though, Ultimate. (Apart from this and the "you need permission for this or that" pop-ups.) Oh well.

                  DavidM,
Running the 32-bit versions of those 2 programs you mention shouldn't be a problem in XP 64 or Vista 64.
But indeed, if you can get a hold of the 64 bit versions you are better of...

Since my switch to 64 bit (Vista Business 64) I didn't have any real issue.
As opposed to 32 bit windows, you will have two 'Program Files' folders. One for 64 bit apps and a 'Program Files (x86)' folder for the old 32-bit applications.

As an experiment, I even tried to install Sketchup in the 64 bit Program Files folder and it worked ๐Ÿ˜„. But it still reacts as the typical old fashioned 32 bit app it is currently (low amount of RAM adressing, monocore only etc...). ๐Ÿ˜‰
