Fedora on a USB
-
My latest little project thing: http://lifehacker.com/391067/fedora-9-puts-your-desktop-on-a-usb-drive
To my great surprise ive actually got it working! Its great fun as well, so if youve got a spare hours or so id reccomend giving it a go. Just for the experience if nothing else.

So is there enough space left on the usb to store files too? What size usb did you use?
I love the lifehack website.

Yeah, theresa bout 1gb left on there, form a 2gb usb. Apparently its possible to do it on a 512mb stick as well, as during the instalation you choose how much 'spare' space the os will have.
Overall im pretty pleased with it, computer seemed to be working pretty nicely, although i couldnt access my hard drives or get the sound to work, im sure if i fiddled about with it i could get it working.

Well it sounds good Remus. I might try this.

You can do this with almost any of the distros, given tweaking. There's usually a performance cost, unfortunately. Have you tried running a 3D modeler off of a USB (like Blender or SU via WINE), Remus?

Nn, i havent tried that yet, i'll give it a go next time i boot up.
Although you can do this for lots of distros, this one's just very nice in it's simplicity. You jsut have to tell it where to find the fedora liveCD and where your USB is and it will go. Good for the stupid folk like me
