      Thanks for the plugin. Can I explain to a simpleton how I can have the walls intersect and mitre correctly when the the walls are created separately.

      Walter

      If you have two walls that are in separate groups and you want to intersect or mitre them, you could try doing a 'union' operation with BoolTools http://www.smustard.com/script/BoolTools.

      I am not sure how else to do it (there is no function in ProfileBuilder do this). Maybe someone else could suggest an alternative method...

      Thanks Dale, I'm having heaps of fun with this....

      One questions: when creating a closed profile member, picking the point where you started doesn;t merge the profile. [see attached] I understand I could do it 'building along a predefined path' but seems it appears to be the long way around....
      Thanks in advance.

      Refer to the troubleshooting section of the manual. My only suggestion is to try using a bottom-left or bottom-right placement point with no offset. I know that this might not be the ideal location of the origin but in some cases, it is the only way to create a closed loop (i.e. placement point at corner of profile). I am meaning to report this as a possible SketchUp bug because this occurs far less frequent when using the standard follow-me tool, even though Profile Builder uses the follow-me method from the SketchUp API. ๐Ÿ˜•

      I have a problem ... ๐Ÿ˜ž

      why is the profile at an angle ?

      Strange...this should not occur if the profile was created from the face that is shown in your screenshot. Is it possible that you modified your axis?? Right click on the axis and choose reset. Then, try to make the profile again.

      Is this problem repeatable?

    • Profile Builder released!

      Profile Builder has just been released at http://www.smustard.com/script/ProfileBuilder

      See video for just a glimpse of what Profile Builder is capable of.

      [flash=425,344:1d6biq4w]http://www.youtube.com/v/FcpGwlfu3vU&hl=en&fs=1[/flash:1d6biq4w]

      Profile Builder is like the Follow Me tool 'on steroids'. It has been designed for professionals who want to model intelligent building materials with extreme speed and accuracy. It may forever change the way you model with SketchUp.

      Compatible with:

      * Windows systems SU6 and up
      * Mac systems SU7 only

      Features

      * Ability to define and save custom profiles
      * Intelligent modelling of real building materials
      * Automatic orientation of profile extrusion along any path
      * Ability to edit a path and automatically update the extrusion
      * Full control of profile orientation (placement point, rotation, offsets, etc.) along a path
      * Profile Member Path Inferencing (PMPI)
      * Automatic edge smoothing
      * Export material quantity reports
      * Downloadable profile libraries

      For a complete list of features, download the user guide.

      Sorry...I could not fix the followme twist in this version. Hopefully next time!

      Hope you enjoy it!

      Jeff,

      I've had the same situation occur as well. So far it seems as though you have to try these at random at a larger scale. Anytime you get an intersetion that is around 1/16 inch or 1 mm it will corrupt the subtraction. At the same time, if you scale it too much it will corrupt the subtraction. I tried it once at 1,000,000X and the corruption was even worse.

      So far my computer has survived the trip out the window and down 6 floors. It's been almost 7 years now. I have been tempted. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

      Gus

      BoolTools uses the intersection method from the SketchUp API which is the exact same function as the 'intersect' context click function that can be accessed from the UI. Sometimes, the intersect method fails (likely due to precision errors). For complex operations (such as a helical subtraction, the chances of these precision errors are greater. If the intersection method fails to execute properly, you will get strange results with BoolTools.

      ClickDraw: If you could post your SKP file, I can take a look just to make sure that your problems are not being caused by some other issue.

      Do you have a 'BoolTools' folder in your plugins folder? Are there three icons in the folder?

      1. A request. When performing a Cut - it is sometimes desirable to KEEP the geometry that is acting as the edge for the cut. eg Trimming Steel Beams 1 and 2 with Wall 1.
        Sometimes I'd like to keep Wall 1 after the operation.
        Could this be built in - eg with an option dialog ??? Would be very handy.

      I anticipated this request and tried hard to get this to work for this version but it was too buggy. My idea was that you could hold down the CNTL modifier key while selecting if you want to keep the cutting geometry. Hopefully, I can get it to work for the next version. There is a fairly easy workaround though:

      1. Select the 'cutting' group and press CNTL+C to copy. You can actually select the group by hovering your mouse over the cutting group while you have the 'Difference' tool active.
      2. Perform the cut with BoolTools
      3. Choose 'paste-in-place' to get the cutting group back. (a shortcut-key would come in handy here...)

      Hope this helps!

      I think the bomb-all plugin could be made much faster on SU7 with a minor modification. Are you using SU7? SU7 should also be more stable and less prone to crashes....

      Hi Whaat! Great plugin!
      Just one thing : All your plugins are scrambled. That's ok.
      But we can't move your menus or insert your icons in a personal toolbar... Is it possible (and do you agree ( ๐Ÿ˜„ ) to allow users have access to menu and toobar commands, please?
      Thank you Whaat!

      i also second that, Whaat. that way one could integrate it with other toolbars decreasing their numbers - it would be great even for the subsmooth plugins

      hmmmm...I'll be considering this in the future. I'm not sure right now how to do this. Thanks!

      My commercial script 'Subdivide and Smooth' http://www.smustard.com/script/SubdivideAndSmooth
      has a tool identical to Zorro but it also works in parallel projection mode (and it snaps to axis)

      I hope to release an update to Zorro sometime in 2009 that works in parallel projection mode, but you might be waiting quite awhile.
