I guess I created a small bug just before I released the plugin that I did not release was there. i will post a fixed version later today. Sorry! I will also try to create a tutorial later today if I have time. For those of you who do not want to wait, just change line 266 to read:

      Sketchup.active_model.start_operation("Zorro")

I belive this will fix the problem but I don't have time to fully test right now.

      Hi Whaat

Some difficulties using Zorro2. No cutting effects, the white feather is gluing to the cut line.
      Let's see my previous post.

      MALAISE 😄

Can you post the SKP file? Are you sure you are in group-edit mode when you are doing the cut?

    • [Plugin] Zorro2 (beta)

Time for an update of Zorro. I think this release is much more polished than the first one. Plus, you now finally have the ability to render section cut views.

      New Features:

-made cuts work with parallel projection views
-added slice model at section plane (right click on a section plane for context menu)
-added nested cuts using CTRL modifier
      -improved precision of cuts

      Somes notes on this release:

      • It is recommended to use 'Slice model at Section' on a backup of your SKP file. It is a destructive process.
      • Cutting through nested components results in creation of many unique components
      • Some code was used with permission from TIG's SectionCutFace script to create a cutting plane from a section plane. Thanks!
      • Script should work for older versions of SU and also on Mac systems

I am calling this a beta version so please post any bugs or requests in this thread. Enjoy!

EDIT: Updated version now attached which should fix the problems that have been reported. Also added tutorial.

You have GOT to be kidding. A website requires a beta version of a web browser to be viewed?? 😕 Only a Microsoft website would be that stupid. 😒

Cecil, I would suggest you uninstall the update of Internet Explorer 8 Beta.

I just tried it, and it worked - ProfileBuilder's preview shows the profiles again!

of course that is only a temporary solution (for we don't want to keep an old version of IE simply because of this compatibility issue). but for the time being. thus you can at least use this marvelous plugin and don't have to refund it.

Yes, I suggest you do the same, Stuart. For Internet browsing, most people recommend using Firefox anyway (which I have heard is more secure). I tried downloading IE8 and had the same issue as you. I could not get it to work by modifying security settings so it seems like it is a compatibilty issue with IE8 or the javascript library that I use to draw the profile preview. I have tried to contact the creator of the javascript library and am waiting for a reply.

Let's hope this gets resolved while IE8 is still in beta.

    • RE: Help from coders needed

I think I understand your workflow but I am wondering if you have ever tried this:

      • After you create a proxy model from a group, go to your components window and insert the sub-surface component as an instance into your model. You can create multiple proxies and surfaces.
      • Position the proxies and change the material to suit your modelling tastes.
      • Position the subsurfaces to form your completed character model.
      • This way, you maintain all the proxies so that you can adjust the amount of subdivision for ALL the various parts of the model as you go.

Is this workflow possible for you in a practical situation??

      1. I use ‘subdivide and smooth’ as a staple tool and I now need it to work in reverse, I need it to un-subdivide and unsmooth, I know that the poly reducing ruby is available and to a certain extent it works but it’s very unstable and it does not reduce quite as I would like it to.
So if it’s at all possible to have an extension to SDS that undivides with the same iriterations and in the same way it would make my new workflow a breeze and one that I can explain with ease to folks interested in character , creature and general free form modeling.

If you model with subD using a proxy, you can always change back to fewer iterations. The important thing is to keep the proxy. If you are not using the proxy, you are throwing away most of the power of 'Subdivide and Smooth'.

Maybe it will work if the compatibility tag is added to the webdialog.

Sorry...Stuart. I did not clue in that you had a new version of IE that I have not tested the plugin on. That seems to be the problem. You could try the method above that thomthom suggests. I suspect that the issue can be fixed by adjusting the IE security settings. I will download IE8 and see what needs to be done to fix this. Thanks for your patience.

Phil Rader has graciously created a profile library of concrete curbs. It is now available on the Smustard website: http://www.smustard.com/script/ProfileBuilder. Thanks so much Phil! I welcome any others who wish to share their library files. If you are interested, you can send it to the email address at the bottom of the Smustard site.

      Dale and All,
I am building a library of AU specific profiles for UB's, UC's, PFC's, EA's, UA's, RHS, SHS, CHS, etc, etc..

Well, I had intended to provide a AU steel library at some point. It is not difficult for me to do it. If you have a spreadsheet of the section properties I could save you the trouble. Real-world accuracy is very important so please double-check your dimensions before submitting the library.

      @unknownuser said:

Also, for RHS, CHS, SHS profiles I was only going to create the external profile, not inclduing wall thicknesses. [in some cases steel thicknesses are 1.6mm]

Thanks but I can't directly use a profile that is not composed of a solid face. 1-D profiles may never be supported by PB. I haven't decided yet.

      Thanks!

      1. When you assign Mark numbers - ie a Prefix or Suffix eg #1,
I was expecting the original Group Name to still remain - is this deliberate or a bug ???
eg Original Group Name = UB_152x89x16
After applying Mark (Suffix) I would expect to see:
        UB_152x89x16#1, UB_152x89x16#2, UB_152x89x16#3 etc
        What I get is #1, #2, #3 etc
Could you please take a look at this if you get time as this feature will be so useful.
(Make original group name remain by default - unless users actually DO want to get rid of it).

Check the manual. To keep the profile name in the group name, use '$P' in the suffix or prefix.

      @unknownuser said:

      1. Something for you to ponder:
I have folders containing many profiles. One skp file = One Profile. I'm sure I'm not alone.
        (eg Steel Sections).
Traditionally, this would be imported into a skp file (it would now be a component) and then extruded manually. Profile Builder gives us the ability to do our extruding a bit smarter and quicker than this - Halleluljah !!!.

My request is, could you either:

      a. Add in a feature to import profiles from a directory THAT ARE INDIVIDUAL *.skp files into a Profile Library (profiles retaining their skp filenames minus the *.skp file extension ie UB_123_567.skp = UB_123_567 in profile library OR
      b. A feature so that these profiles can be utilised directly (ie without importing them).

Do you know that I have steel section libraries already created and ready for download on the Smustard website? As for your suggestion, it is a good idea for the next version. I will consider it. Thanks!

BTW, I intend to create more free downloadable profile libraries based on user requests. There are also ways to create to Profile Libraries from an Excel spreadsheet. I hope to create a tutorial for this someday. If you take a look at the file format for the PLB files, you can probably figure it out. The format is 'NAME x1 y1 x2 y2 x3 y3 ....'
