Interesting. What sort of issues are you running into?

      -Brodie

Its hard to establish a repeating, occurrence. Regardless, the first thing I notice is the orbit tool wont rotate the stuff in the view port which basically makes that entire file unusable. Also when I try to use the orbit tool the mouse leaves a trail of dots on the screen where the mouse has been I will try to get some screen shots shortly. I'm also suspecting that existing scenes in a file may be a cause of the problem. I'm doing more testing before I keep or return this laptop.

p.s. I'm just trying to provide more input to this thread, without being accused of changing its topic πŸ˜„

    • RE: New Laptop Advice

      timely topic:
I just bought an ASUS A535V laptop from Costco online. They also have a 90 return policy. I want to use the i7 for rendering mainly. BUT I'm having some issues with the Geforce GT 540m graphics card running SketchUp files larger than 2mg.
Strange! because I've never had an issue with Sketchup running any file size on my quad core CPU with a Geforce 8800gt.

I can't believe its a texture only. perhaps your using a combination texture and 3d tiles?
      TIA!

    • UI openpanel - path issue?

The sketchup-ruby-api shows Arguments: title, directory, filename
There is no example of how to change the directory to a user path:
Can UI openpanel be used to point to a path as below ?

      c:\Program flies (x86)\Goggle\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins\my dir

OK... so the path is not part of the extrusion and erases OK as it's not been affect by the followme...

yes, and even if the path is part of the extrusion.... the 2nd last statement will erase the path!
Its the face that still wont erase. 😞

Presently the API's implementation of adding a face is:
      example: face = entities.add_face($pt6, $pt8, $pt7, $pt5)
for consistency in programming one should then also expect something similar for erasing a face:
      example: face = entities.erase_face($pt6, $pt8, $pt7, $pt5)

Unfortunately that type of simple logic is missing. πŸ€“

this pic shows another example exhibiting the same erase problem, the points make no difference to either example.

your suggestion does not work! There is no problem erasing the last operation, I wonder if this item needs to be extracted from the stack, since its not the last item?

    • Erasing entites problem?
      edges = entities.add_edges(pt4, pt1, pt2, pt3, pt0, pt4)
      base = entities.add_face(pt4, pt6, pt8, pt7, pt9, pt10)
      base.reverse!
      base.followme(edges)
      entities.erase_entities edges
      entities.erase_entities base

I'm able to erase the followme profile, which is the 2nd last statement in the code. I was hoping to use the last statement in the code, to erase the followme face, which is also no longer required after followme has done its job. The last statement gives a console error, what statement should I be using instead?

I imported a Parabola curve which arrived in segmented pieces, I'm trying to put it back into one piece so I can use it with Tig's Extrude edges by Rails tools to make a mesh. How do I make it a one piece curve again?

I don't think anyone here is trying to discredit Vray, although I have always felt a disconnect between the easy use of Sketchup versus the professional nature of Vray. Watching a superb 10 minute Video of how to create lighting for one living room lamp in Vray, does not inspire me to attempt to do the same to illuminate 20 other lights in a scene, including the time it takes to render unfavorable outcomes.

Tomot, issues like that of the blotchy furniture could also be a material and /or lighting problem. Can you post the file to have others take a look?

Earthmover: Simply download any Kraftmaid kitchen cabinet, and see how it renders.

Check the Task Manager to check for memory usage.
Remember vfsu runs inside su, which is 32bit. The very max it can use is 4gb.

I use 8gb mainly for Photoshop, I would hope I should not have to disable or remove my available Ram just for Vray. πŸ€“ I have found after 2 years of beta testing, its best to uninstall Vray when I'm not rendering inside SketchUp. Vray simply interferes too much with the normal operation of SketchUp, without Vray installed SketchUp almost never crashes.
I have upgraded several times my computer systems. I have 4 to chose 2 of which are netbooks. Without Vray, Sketchup loads almost instantly. My gut feeling after all this testing to date, Vray will never run successfully inside SketchUp, At the same time, I still hope my experience will be proven wrong. πŸ€“

    • RE: Do you use DC's as part of furniture/kitchen design?

I recently was exposed to dynamic components unknowingly thru the Google Hohouse πŸ˜„
In a perfect world I would have a component library, but I don't use components all that often, so there is no need to add to my lengthy Todo list, "keep components uptodate" which I don't use most of the time. Hence all to often procedure has a habit of getting in the way of the real world. "Like have you not done the vacuuming yet?"

    • Will vray rendered images ever replace the digital Camera?

I took it upon myself to get a new client on-board:

He is in the ornamental glass tile manufacturing business. He would like to reduce his brochure costs by using computer generated renderings of his products versus photographing his products in scenes using real props and real glass tile installations.

And he correctly identifies one issue, when I offer a computer generated image:
"can you make it look less computer generated" ....to which I have no easy answer, apart from add more Photoshopping features.

      http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=322&t=39954

Even if I were a Vray Rendering Genius, which I'm not, I could not possibly charge him for all the hours of rendering failures, I encounter daily.

The proper rendering of the cabinets, which are props, should by now, be a no brainer.
I should only be concentrating on the proper glass reflection properties. Which I'm happy to say may be getting there if I get more reflections on the glass which should naturally predominate in the scene, considering the nature of my clients product.

any great news? maybe RT? maybe a better control of materials as 3d max? a way to share the .mat collection? better usage of 64bits? maybe a external render, lol.

      and less crashing!

And whats happened to the vray sketchup beta testers?
I used to be one when ASGVIS was running the show, never heard a word, not one thank you email for testing, when ChaosGroup took over. 😒

About the colours in the mirror, have you checked your facr normals?

correct! the face normals were reversed, my bad.

I fire up Vray once a month to see if it can still annoy me, and it still never lets me down.
So how do we deal with these ongoing rendering problems?
