Everybody loves SketchUp's ease-of-use and incredibly fast modeling tools. In fact, SpaceClaim loved them so much, we built a product specifically for mechanical design that we often hear called "SketchUp on steroids."

Interesting looking product which apparently owes a lot to SU. Shame they didn't learn from SU's marketing. I'm always suspicious of a company offering a product that doesn't publish it's prices, this usually results in regional rip offs and I won't touch software on a time limited licence which stops working at the end of the licence period; been there done that and lost a lot of valuable data because of it. As a consequence I won't even bother with the demo.

Agreed.
The first thing I do when I hear about a new software that might be useful to me is to go to the sales page to find out what it's price point is. If I'm expected to contact a reseller for a 'quote' I back out of the site and don't return. Too shady for me.

Thanks for your interested. SpaceClaim is designed as more of a professional CAD application, typically used by mechanical engineers, machinists, and simulation specialists. We see it used a lot for concept work, which is why SketchUp integration is so important to our community. We actually have many customers who use both SpaceClaim and SketchUp together on a daily basis.

The pricing varies regionally and is ultimately set by distributors, but SpaceClaim is much less expensive that heavy-duty CAD systems like SolidWorks, but is more expensive than SketchUp Pro. The educational pricing is very low. It appears that there is some confusion at the end of this thread about one distributors multi-pack educational pricing. If you want more information on pricing, please visit our sales page. http://www.spaceclaim.com/en/Products/Purchase_SpaceClaim.aspx

Yeah, $4K would be steep for a hobbyist but I imagine the software is not aimed at hobbyists ..... poor ones, at any rate
